Winter Caribou Report

We are delighted to report that based on winter reports from local Indigenous hunters and our winter caretakers, our regional caribou herd, the Kaminuriak herd, appears to be doing very well. The winter harvest is ongoing and numbers appear strong. This coincides with recent data showing the herd has actually increased in size to just under 300,000 animals.

The Kaminuriak sport hunt is managed under the guidance of the Beverly and Kaminuriak Caribou Management Board, a group made up of local Indigenous populations, and working in concert with government officials from Manitoba, Nunavut and the NWT. It is estimated only 500 sport hunting licenses a year are issued.
