A Textbook Moose Hunt

We just concluded another successful 2026 moose season. Like all moose hunting, the 16 days were full of a mix of variable Fall weather conditions, not unlike most years. Weather and temperatures are EVERYTHING in moose hunting and how our guides adjust and determine their hunting methods each day can make the difference.

2026 hunter Dan Johnston enjoyed a textbook moose hunt.  This Dallas Texas native looks more like a mountain man then some of our guides and was a pleasure to host.  Upon his arrival, three days of windy weather from the NW dictated where guide Tin Tin could actually hunt and made for difficult calling conditions. It was very frustrating as Tin Tin had already identified multiple areas with excellent sign. But he had a plan and on day 4 it paid off handsomely.

Awakening to a textbook morning, with calm conditions, Tin Tin knew exactly which area of the lake he and Dan were heading to and it did not take long to pay off.  Dan and he headed to the southern part of the lake near an old portage trail.  Within minutes, around 7:40 am, Tin Tin with his keen hearing could hear a bull moving in response to his calls. He and Dan stayed patient, slowly working the bull in closer. By 8:10 am, the bull finally came into a clearing and exposed himself at less than 100 yds. It was a great specimen, almost perfectly proportional and in his prime. Dan, an experienced hunter from Texas,  wasted no time and with one well-placed shot, had earned a magnificent specimen, a beautiful 50” Canadian bull moose .  A great trophy!

Dan enjoyed his 2026 hunt with us so much, he has already rebooked for 2027 and invited his son to join him.
